A handwoven Ersari Turkmen rug made in Afghanistan in the 1960s. Traditionally flat-woven and naturally dyed in shades of red and green. Exuding the spirit of Central Asia, it is decorated with expressive gül motifs arranged in rhythmic diamond patterns. Deep shades of red predominate, accented with vivid green, gold and blue to create a harmonious composition. Richly decorated borders and the symmetrical arrangement of the patterns demonstrate the craftsmanship of Ersari tribal weavers and their centuries-old tradition. These rugs are made from natural wool and dyes, giving them warmth and a refined character. They have a strong ethnic style and are rich in history and tribal symbolism.

Gül motifs are the central element of the design. In Ersari rugs, they most often take the form of large, octagonal medallions repeated in rows. This pattern differs from the güls of other Turkmen tribes. It is less intricate, more open and often filled with small details. The wide borders feature geometric motifs, diamonds, hooks, wolf’s mouth motifs, teeth and stylised flowers. Ersari rugs are handwoven on horizontal or vertical looms. Deep reds, burgundies and browns predominate, with contrasting accents of green, blue, gold and ivory. All colours are achieved using natural dyes derived from plants, insects and minerals.

The rug has been preserved in its original vintage condition. It shows signs of age-related wear, with minor losses to the fabric and fringes. Before shipping, the rug will undergo professional cleaning and will be ready for use.
