Unique, hand-carved figure of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child, made of limewood and dating from the first half of the 20th century. This authentic piece of folk sculpture has a distinctly sacred character and has been preserved with its original polychromy and beautiful natural patina, which has developed over decades of use.

The Madonna is depicted wearing a crown with an openwork Gothic motif and holding the Christ Child on her lap. The composition is characterised by the simplicity and expressiveness typical of traditional Central European folk craftsmanship. Visible chisel marks and evidence of hand carving emphasise the unique character of the work.

The figure was carved from a single block of limewood, with the natural grain of the base preserved. Despite wear and age-related losses, the original polychromy has retained its authentic character and represents significant collector’s value.

Condition: very good, original vintage condition. Natural signs of use, areas of wear to the polychromy, minor cracks in the wood and patina consistent with the object’s age. No modern overpainting.
