Wooden relief, Asia, 19th century
Antique, hand-carved wooden relief depicting a seated figure of a religious nature.
The piece was made using the deep-relief technique, with a detailed background and decorative border.

The relief retains fragmentary, multicoloured polychrome in shades of turquoise, brown and natural wood.
The heavily damaged surface, losses of polychrome, cracks and signs of prolonged use emphasise its authentic, antique character.

It probably served as part of a small altar, shrine or sacred furnishing intended to be hung on a wall.
