Description

Original English office chair by HILLCREST, dating from the first half of the 20th century, most likely from the 1910s–1930s.

The chair features a distinctive, sturdy wooden frame with beautifully contoured armrests and an original swivel base with casters. Beneath the seat is an exceptionally interesting, robust spring mechanism by Hillcrest, used to adjust the tilt resistance and operation of the chair.

The original marking has been preserved on the metal mechanism:
“HILLCREST – REG’D TRADE MARK – WHF – MADE IN ENGLAND”.
This is an authentic English piece, not a contemporary reproduction. The distinctive Hillcrest Chair Actions mechanisms can be found in English study and office chairs from the early 20th century. Surviving examples are currently offered by European auction houses and antique dealers.

The chair has a highly appealing, classic design and is ideal as a study chair, library chair, or for a stylish office, studio, or vintage/antique-style interior.

Condition: Retained in original condition, with visible signs of use and the passage of time.
The upholstery shows signs of scuffing and wear, as shown in the photographs.
The wooden frame is preserved in an attractive, original condition.
The mechanism bears natural signs of age and use.
