Industrial articulated lamp, designed by Curt Fischer for Midgard, Germany, 1950s

The lamp was manufactured in East Germany (GDR) during the post-war period, around 1949 or later (the 1950s). Curt Fischer is often credited with inventing adjustable lighting, i.e. “steering lamps”.
The lamp features characteristic articulated arms (two- or four-arm) and an enamelled shade.
Originally, these were wall-mounted lamps used beside machinery. The heavy base on which the pictured example stands was added later, allowing it to be used as a desk or table lamp.
The lamp has had its electrical wiring replaced.
