Description
Persian Heriz rug, Iran, 1920s
Antique handwoven Persian rug from the 1920s. Heris is a city in northwestern Iran, near the larger city of Tabriz. Rugs with recognisable and distinctive patterns have been produced in this region for centuries. A medallion with clearly defined borders occupies the centre. The rug is made from very coarse yarn on a cotton warp. Its defining feature is the use of high-quality wool, making it valued for its durability and hard-wearing qualities. Despite being 100 years old, the wool still retains its lustre. Thanks to their high weave density, Heriz rugs are suitable for both homes and public spaces, as they are easy to keep clean.
Original condition with natural patina and signs of age. Professionally cleaned.
