Scandinavian teak chest of drawers, Denmark, 1960s

Description

Teak chest of drawers produced in Denmark in the 1960s. It has a simple, balanced form typical of Danish modernism. The central section contains four drawers, while the two sides have pairs of sliding doors. All fronts have elongated wooden recessed handles that do not disturb the clean lines of the piece. The top has slightly raised side edges, while the plinth is subtly recessed, making the chest of drawers appear lighter. The whole piece rests on slender turned legs that taper towards the bottom. Unfortunately, we were unable to establish the designer or manufacturer of this unique piece of furniture.

The chest of drawers is highly practical. The sliding doors are lockable, and conceal two capacious compartments with shelves. The drawers, with their light wooden sides, have bases lined with green material and are well suited to storing cutlery, tablecloths or documents. The sliding doors do not require space to open, so the chest of drawers will also work well in narrower rooms. At 184 cm wide, it will look well in a living room or dining room, and can also be used as a low television cabinet.

The piece has undergone thorough, professional restoration involving the removal of old finishes, staining and lacquer finishing. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced cabinetmaker with more than 20 years of experience. As a result, the chest of drawers is in excellent condition and will serve its new owner for many years without concern about damage or deterioration during everyday use.
