Victorian brass and cast-iron umbrella stand, England, 19th century
Description
Elegant antique Victorian-style umbrella and walking-stick stand, made in England in the second half of the 19th century, around 1870–1880.
The stand features a slender, rectangular structure made from brass elements, decorative turned finials and a heavy cast-iron base with a high rim serving as a drip tray. The upper section is divided into several compartments intended for storing umbrellas, walking sticks or walking sticks.
Particularly attractive are the decorative spherical finials on the uprights and the preserved natural patina of the brass surface, which gives the piece an authentic character and a beautiful antique appearance.
The base has retained its original dark green finish, although numerous scuffs and chips resulting from many years of use are now visible. Signs of age, patina and surface wear are an inherent part of the character of this antique piece.
It will work equally well as a practical piece of furniture in a hallway and as a decorative element in collector’s, classical or eclectic interiors.
