Description

Vintage teak desk, Poland, 1960s

This teak desk, made in Poland in the 1960s, is an example of post-war functional design with clear influences of Scandinavian modernism. During this period, Polish furniture factories increasingly turned to simple, restrained forms that reflected contemporary European trends.

The design of the piece is based on a classic executive desk configuration. On the left is a module with three drawers, while on the right is a lockable cabinet with a single door (the key is included). Above them is a suspended, set-back section with two additional drawers, creating a distinctive two-level desktop. This solution lends lightness to the structure and balances its proportions, while also increasing the functionality of the work surface.

The fronts feature integrated, routed pulls with a soft, rounded profile, made from solid teak. This detail is typical of 1960s production, when metal elements were often replaced with joinery solutions incorporated directly into the design of the fronts. Slender legs, slightly tapered towards the bottom, raise the case above the floor, giving the piece visual lightness despite its compact construction.

The piece has undergone meticulous professional restoration, including the removal of old finishes, staining and lacquer finishing. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced cabinetmaker with over 20 years of experience. As a result, the desk presents beautifully and will serve its new owner for many years without concern about damage or deterioration through everyday use.
