A rare, original dining table designed by Agner Christoffersen for the Danish manufacturer N.C. Christoffersen in 1948, a period when Danish modernism was in its early stages of development. This is a versatile and timeless design from the beginning of the Mid-Century Modern era. The table is made of high-quality Brazilian rosewood in a chestnut-brown hue. It is distinguished by its rich and interesting grain. Steel inlay has been set around the tabletop as well as in the legs. The table comes with three additional leaves made of poplar, a type of wood that is practically unused and forgotten today, but was highly valued in previous centuries. In addition to its refined aesthetic, its functionality is also noteworthy: when extended, the table reaches an impressive 275 cm. The table is striking for its size, as well as for the elegance and coherence of its design. Created to complement the art of good living, because Scandinavian design is also a particular way of life, not merely a style of design.

Agner Christoffersen lived from 1907 to 1993. He was a Danish architect and designer. He began as a cabinetmaker, then studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. In 1928, he was employed by the Copenhagen Municipal Planning Board, later becoming its chief architect from 1966 to 1975. In the 1940s and 1950s, he worked as a consultant to architects Vilhelm Lauritzen and Hoff and Windinge on projects including Gladsaxe Town Hall, Højskolen Marielyst, Bagsværd School, and Herning Gymnasium.

The table has been preserved in its original vintage condition. It has been conserved by us. It bears minor age-related marks and natural patina. Each additional leaf measures 50 cm. The table can be extended to 175 cm, 225 cm, or 275 cm by adding the leaves one at a time.
