Handwoven Hamadan oriental rug made in Iran in the 1960s. Traditionally woven using the flat-weave technique. Dyed in shades of rustic red, pink and purple, with a strongly accentuated single medallion positioned in the centre of the rug. This is a handcrafted piece in which every detail has been carefully considered and refined.

Hamadan rugs are traditional, handwoven rugs originating from the Hamadan region of western Iran. This region is one of the oldest centres of rug weaving in the world and encompasses numerous villages and towns, each with its own unique patterns and styles. The various types of rugs made in Iran are most often named after the regions and towns where they are produced, such as Hamadan, Kerman or Shiraz, or after the nomadic tribes involved in their production. They most commonly feature central medallions, geometric motifs and floral designs. These patterns are usually symmetrical. Some elements are more abstract, while others are inspired by traditional Persian motifs. Typical colours used in Hamadan rugs include reds, navy, shades of blue, brown, beige and ivory. The colours are generally vivid and intense, achieved using natural plant- and mineral-based dyes. The rugs are handwoven from wool, often on a cotton warp, making them durable and hard-wearing. They typically have a medium knot density, giving them a robust structure. The Persian asymmetrical knot is often used, allowing greater precision and detail in the pattern. Hamadan rugs combine traditional craftsmanship with functionality, serving as both a beautiful decorative element and a practical addition to an interior.
