Description

Omero Magazine Rack, designed by Francisco Gomez Paz, produced by Driade, Italy, 2006

Omero is a design by Argentine designer Francisco Gomez Paz, created for the Italian brand Driade in 2006. It is an object that blurs the boundary between a functional accessory and a small sculpture. The distinctive arrangement of six conical elements allows newspapers and magazines to be inserted vertically between successive rings, creating a light, almost graphic composition. Even when left empty, Omero retains its expressive form and becomes a decorative accent in an interior.

The magazine rack is made of polished aluminium and stainless steel. Its stable, three-legged base contrasts with the rhythmically arranged aluminium cones, giving the whole piece a sense of lightness despite its solid construction. It is an example of contemporary Italian design with a sculptural character, drawing on minimalism and high-tech aesthetics, where form follows function directly.

Omero was designed for everyday use, but it works equally well as a standalone element in an interior scheme. Thanks to its vertical arrangement, stored magazines are easily accessible while avoiding visual clutter. The magazine rack is ideally suited to a living room, study, waiting room or office space, where, in addition to its practical function, it brings a distinctive accent of contemporary design to the interior. It is a design that demonstrates how even a simple everyday object can be considered down to the smallest detail.

Francisco Gomez Paz (born 1975) is an Argentine designer living and working in Milan. His work is based on experimentation with materials and technologies, as well as the search for new functional solutions. He has collaborated with brands such as Driade, Artemide, Luceplan and Danese, receiving numerous international awards, including the prestigious Compasso d’Oro.

Driade is one of Italy’s best-known design brands, founded in 1968. From the outset, the company has collaborated with designers who have helped shape the direction of contemporary design, creating collections that combine functionality with a bold approach to form. Driade products often balance between furniture, functional objects and collectible pieces, which has given the brand an important place in the world of contemporary design for decades.
