Original poster from Andy Warhol’s exhibition – Marilyn Monroe RETROSPECTIVE, held from 21 November 1989 to 11 February 1990 at Museum Ludwig Cologne in Germany. The original portrait of the actress was created in 1967 and reproduced nine times. The poster was designed by Ros Nagy-Roden. The exhibition was organised under the patronage of the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA).

Andy Warhol lived from 1928 to 1987. He was an American artist and one of the leading representatives of Pop Art, known primarily for simple, serial compositions with high colour contrast, created using the screen-printing technique. Using this technique, he portrayed some of the biggest stars of pop culture, including Brigitte Bardot, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor. He also created images of other widely recognised figures, including Mao Zedong and Vladimir Lenin. He was also known for his designs featuring consumer products from the average American refrigerator, such as Coca-Cola cans and Campbell’s tomato soup, as well as everyday objects such as poppies, bananas and Brillo washing powder boxes.

The work is in original vintage condition. It has minor soiling at the bottom.
