Description

Pair of vintage chairs, Jylland, Jio Möbler, Sweden, 1953

Pair of modernist Jylland chairs manufactured by Jio Möbler in 1953. The frame is made of lacquered beechwood. The slender legs flow gently into a subtly reclined backrest. The seat and backrest have been newly upholstered in high-quality black synthetic leather. The chairs are very comfortable and perfectly capture the spirit of the Mid-Century Modern era.

Jio Möbler was founded in 1941 in Jönköping, Sweden. To this day, the company produces unconventional, exclusive, handmade upholstered furniture using the finest-quality fabrics. Its production is based on many years of tradition, high-quality materials and skilled craftsmanship.

Literature: Siesing, Andreas, Svenska möbler: folkhemsform i ull, jakaranda, furu och bok: 1949-1970, Atlantis, Stockholm, 2015, p. 31.

This model was part of the exhibition Folkhemform – Swedish Furniture 1949–1970, held at Falkenbergs Museum from 10 September to 27 November 2016.

The chairs are in very good vintage condition. The upholstery has been renewed. The seat height is 40 cm.

The colours of the products shown in the photographs may differ slightly from the actual colours. This is due to individual monitor settings and the type of lighting—the photographs were taken in artificial light, which may affect the perception of the shades. We nevertheless make every effort to ensure that the photographs reflect the product’s actual appearance as accurately as possible. The listing may include photographs of the item shown in an interior setting. These are for illustrative purposes only.
