Description

Rattan lounge chair with pull-out footrest, Germany, 1930s

A rare lounge chair on the market. It was probably manufactured in Germany in the 1930s. This is a masterful combination of functionalism and organic design. The construction is based on a harmonious combination of three different materials: natural bamboo, flexible rattan and raw metal. The main frame of the piece is formed from solid stems of natural bamboo, creating distinctive geometric bends in the lower part of the frame. This gives the structure visual lightness while maintaining its strength. Comfort is ensured by the tall, ergonomically contoured backrest and deep seat, finished with a dense rattan weave. The whole piece is held together by minimalist metal structural elements that stabilise the armrests and reclining mechanism, adding a modern, technical character to the furniture.

The chair’s greatest asset is its integrated pull-out footrest, discreetly concealed beneath the seat. This well-considered system allows the classic chair to be transformed into a comfortable lounger in just a few simple movements. Thanks to its sculptural yet simple form, this piece is an excellent example of timeless design that will work equally well in modern and eclectic vintage-style interiors.

The seat is 39 cm high.

Additional dimensions:
width when extended: 141 cm
footrest dimensions: 60 cm x 36 cm x 36 cm

The piece is in original vintage condition. It has minor cracks and signs of age, rust on the metal parts, material losses, small tears, scuffs and scratches.
