Description

Vintage coffee table, Hyggebord 55, Gorm Møbler, Denmark, 1956

Low coffee table Hyggebord 55 manufactured by the Danish furniture maker Gorm Møbler in 1956. The rounded tabletop is made of high-quality teak, while the slender legs are made of afromosia wood. Beneath the tabletop, the table features an open brass ladder-style shelf. The combination of these materials gives the table a light, airy form and, despite the simplicity of the design, a sculptural character. The Danish philosophy of Hygge, from which the table takes its name, signifies warmth, cosiness, and harmony. The table will complement a wide range of interiors, bringing the room into the golden age of Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern design. The maker’s mark is located on the underside of the tabletop.

Gorm Møbler is a small, artisanal manufacturer from Denmark. It specialised in teak and oak furniture. The best-known designer to work with Gorm was Christian Sørensen, creator of the iconic armchair with a pull-out footrest.

The table is in original, very good vintage condition. It has minor signs of use associated with its age.
