Michel Ducaroy was born in 1925 into a family of furniture designers and manufacturers that furnished private interiors and carried out contract commissions – for ships, exhibitions and public buildings. He studied at École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and trained at the family firm. From 1952, he worked as an independent designer.

He encountered Ligne Roset in 1954 and became one of the company’s most important designers. In 1968, he designed Adria – a low, modular seat made entirely of foam, one of the first of its kind. In 1973, Togo was created: a foam seat in a quilted polyester cover, which remains one of Ligne Roset’s best-selling pieces of furniture.

For Ligne Roset, he also designed Kashima, part of the range since the 1970s, and Safi – large cushions on a Plexiglas frame.
