Orange Space Age swivel armchair, Scandinavia, 1960s

A low swivel armchair manufactured in Scandinavia in the 1960s. This is not merely a functional piece but also a decorative statement, drawing the eye with its organic, rounded form and vibrant finish inspired by the futurism of the 1960s and 1970s. Its soft, capsule-like silhouette recalls forms straight out of science-fiction films. The wide, enveloping backrest and deep seat have been newly upholstered in orange synthetic leather. This intense colour accent perfectly highlights the chair’s unique character, bringing energy and a modern style to the interior. The back of the chair is embellished with symmetrical stitching. The solid frame is set on a chromed four-star base, providing stability while introducing an industrial accent that contrasts with the soft lines of the seat. The chair offers excellent comfort and is ideal both for relaxation and as a designer feature in an interior. Space Age style was the design world’s response to the fascination with space exploration and new technologies. Interiors created in this spirit were characterised by futuristic shapes, modern materials and bold colours.
