The Fenix chaise longue designed by Sam Larsson for the Swedish brand Dux is an interesting example of 1960s Scandinavian design, clearly inspired by the Bauhaus’s functional approach. The model is based on a simple, technical construction in which form follows function – without unnecessary ornamentation, but with a strong emphasis on comfort and proportion.
A distinctive element of the design is its chromed steel frame, with a light, almost architectural form, combined with a soft suspended seat. Constructions of this type were popular in modernist design during the 1960s, when great importance was placed on the visual lightness of furniture and the exposure of its structure.
The chaise longue is made of chromed steel and genuine leather. The seat has been reupholstered in high-quality black genuine leather, which works well with the cool character of the steel construction and emphasises the minimalist aesthetic of the design. The original chromed metal frame is in good condition, with signs of age and use in the form of scratches and small rust spots. The combination of these materials gives the piece a timeless character typical of modernist lounge furniture. The chaise longue allows the angle of the seat to be adjusted, making it possible to adopt a position ranging from seated to almost fully reclined. The mechanism is in working order.
