Miniature, twin, collectible stoneware vase designed by Gunnar Borg for the Swedish manufacturer Höganäs Keramik in the 1960s. Handcrafted by a master with the utmost care and attention to detail. Two vases forming a single unit, finished in an irregular warm brown shade. Signed with the designer’s signature and the manufacturer’s mark. The joining of the two vases is probably a so-called factory defect, and this piece was never intended for sale, making it a collector’s rarity.

Gunnar Borg lived from 1926 to 2007. To this day, he remains one of the leading representatives of 20th-century Scandinavian ceramic design. He was known for miniature, handmade ceramic and stoneware objects, mainly vases. He also created lamp bases, cups, decorative bowls and ashtrays. He began his career at the age of 14 at Andersson & Johansson in Höganäs. From 1940 onwards, he worked there for the next 28 years. The artist’s creativity and craftsmanship are evident in every object. In 1968, Borg established his own workshop, where he worked until his death.

Höganäs Keramik, formerly AJ Andersson & Johansson Keramik, was founded in 1909 by Johannes Olofsson and Sigfrid Johansson. Modern household articles secured an indisputable place in the history of Swedish design. Notable ceramicists at AJ / Höganäs included John Andersson, Anne Nilsson, Rolf Palm, Lisa Larrson and Gunnar Borg. Today, it is a design company and part of the Iittala Group, a Finnish art glass manufacturer.
