Illum Wikkelsø (1919–1999) received training in carpentry as a teenager in Faaborg on Funen. He studied at Tekniske Selskabs Skole (Technical Society School) and Kunsthåndværkerskolen (School of Arts and Crafts) in Copenhagen, and furniture design under Kaare Klint. In the 1940s, he worked, among others, at the Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen studio, and in 1954 he established his own design studio.

His furniture was produced by, among others, Niels Eilersen – for this company he designed a rocking armchair and the Capella sofa in 1958 – as well as Søren Willadsen, Holger Christiansen and C.F. Christensen. At MIDMOD, his furniture appears as single pieces from the secondary market.
