Description

Classic, square coffee table from the Capella series, designed by Illum Wikkelsø for the Danish manufacturer Niels Eilersen in the 1960s. Made from high-quality rosewood, this low table has a warm brown tone and rich grain. The base consists of slender H-shaped legs. Its elegant design, with an emphasis on clean forms and simple lines, will fit perfectly into a wide range of interiors—not only as a coffee table.

Kristian Illum Wikkelsø belonged to the group of designers who represented the golden age of Danish design in the 1950s and 1960s. He was one of the key figures who turned Danish design into an international phenomenon. Although Wikkelsø’s style was in many ways consistent with the design aesthetic of his time, he had both the courage and the ability to develop his own innovative style, which was often expressive and surprising, but always focused on refined craftsmanship and attention to detail. His aim was to capture the beauty of the surrounding environment in his furniture designs. Wikkelsø was admitted to the School of Furniture Design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and, under the guidance of Kaare Klint, established a reputation through his unique aesthetic and handcrafted attention to detail. He collaborated with several artists but ultimately, in 1954, founded his own design firm based in Aarhus, Denmark.

Founded in 1895 by Niels Eilersen, the company initially manufactured horse-drawn carriages. Eilersen was the first in Denmark to use steam to shape wood. Since the 1930s, N. Eilersen has produced furniture with an emphasis on the highest quality materials, comfort, and durability. This strategy made Eilersen a well-known and recognizable brand both domestically and abroad. N. Eilersen is a family business currently run by the fourth generation. Innovation and tradition remain its hallmarks.

The table remains in its original vintage condition. It has minor age-related marks.

The colours of products shown in the photographs may differ slightly from their actual colours. This is due to individual monitor settings and lighting conditions—the photographs were taken in artificial light, which may affect how the shades are perceived.
