Vintage sideboard with Op-Art painted finish, Scandinavia, 1960s

A modernist sideboard manufactured in Scandinavia in the 1960s. It is finished in birch wood with irregular, pronounced grain, visible unevenness and variations in the grain. The wood has a distinctive earthy finish, with browns and greys intermingling in contrasting tones of varying intensity. The sideboard has a pair of sliding doors with elongated wooden handles. The front is decorated with a hand-painted, hypnotic black-and-white Op-Art design. Inside, it has one shelf and a spacious open compartment. It stands on tall wooden legs.

The sideboard has undergone partial restoration, preserving its natural patina. This piece has been finished in accordance with the principles of the upcycled vintage movement. Its form is original and dates from the 20th century, while the final finish was altered through artistic interventions or by combining parts from various original objects. All work was carried out using traditional methods, is consistent with the aesthetics of the period from which the piece originates, and supports the zero-waste ethos.
