Description

Set of 6 upholstered chairs, Fröscher Sitform, Germany, 1980s

A set of six well-made upholstered chairs from the German manufactory Fröscher Sitform, dating from the 1980s. The chairs have a simple construction. Their base consists of four round wooden legs joined by a cross-shaped brace made of black-painted metal. The brace also supports the seat. The rear legs are longer, extending above the seats, with the chair backs attached to them by means of metal brackets. The legs extend beyond the outline of the seat, allowing the chairs to be stacked one on top of another.

The seats and backs are made of bent, ergonomically shaped plywood. They are upholstered in a dark, three-colour mélange boucle-type fabric with an aubergine hue.

The chairs are not new; they are vintage furniture with a history, traces of which remain on the wooden elements in the form of minor scratches and scuffs. The wooden legs have been refreshed. The old varnish coatings were removed, and the cleaned wood was treated with a clear hardwax oil. The seats and backs underwent professional upholstery restoration. The foam was replaced, and the old upholstery was replaced with new furniture-grade boucle fabric featuring a sophisticated combination of three colours. This is an attractive, high-quality mélange looped fabric—beautiful, modern and stylish. Four damaged spacer washers beneath the seats were also replaced with similar plastic components.

The chairs are sturdy and stable. They are preserved in excellent condition and ready for use. They are very comfortable.
