Handwoven Afghan Gold Ersari Oriental rug made in Afghanistan in the 1930s. Also known as the Golden Afghan. Dyed in golden-brown hues using naturally sourced dyes. The centre of the rug features a triple geometric medallion, minimally embellished with small traditional accents.

Golden Ersari rugs are a type of traditional rug originating from the Ersari tribe, one of the Turkmen tribes inhabiting the regions of present-day Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and northern Uzbekistan. The name Golden Ersari refers to their distinctive colour palette and design. The main distinguishing feature of these rugs is their golden-yellow or golden-brown colour. In addition to golden hues, these rugs may also feature reds, browns, burgundy and dark blue or green accents. Ersari rug designs are often dominated by large geometric motifs known as guls, arranged symmetrically across the entire surface of the rug. These patterns may be more austere and simpler than those found on other Turkmen rugs, while still retaining their traditional tribal character. Some rugs also feature stylised floral motifs. These rugs are most commonly woven from high-quality wool, making them soft yet exceptionally durable. Golden Ersari rugs are handwoven with great precision, and their dense weave further enhances their durability and quality. They are prized for their warm, rich colours and traditional tribal designs, which give them a unique and authentic character. They are an excellent example of high-quality Central Asian craftsmanship.
