Brutalist leather sofa, 1950s

A rare leather sofa manufactured in the 1950s. Its form references the design of the Bauhaus school, whose aim was to unite creative imagination, art and technology with practical knowledge and craftsmanship. Bauhaus teachers and students used metal in furniture design because they believed it perfectly met the criteria of modernity. Metal was a material that represented no particular style, expressing function and structure. Set on a geometric, chromed metal frame is a leather structure in dark chocolate brown. The sofa has two removable cushions upholstered in black genuine leather with symmetrical quilting. As an alternative, it also comes with a second, smooth seat cushion covered in black genuine leather. The soft cushions make it very comfortable, while its low profile, typical of the era, works perfectly in a variety of interiors. This is a bold and distinctive piece of furniture designed in accordance with the principles of rigorous Brutalist design.

The sofa is in original vintage condition, with a natural patina. It has visible blemishes on the leather resulting from age. The seat height is 38 cm.
