Description
Desk clock, Mauthe, Germany, 1950s
The Mauthe Clock Company was founded in Germany by Friedrich Mauthe in 1844.
It enjoyed a successful run until 1976. In the 1920s, more than 60% of the clocks exported from Germany to England were Mauthe clocks.
This small wind-up beauty was produced around 1950. It has a surprisingly substantial weight and excellent mid-century design, and keeps time perfectly.
The aluminium shows slight signs of ageing. The dial and bezel are not scratched, but there is slight discolouration in the lower part of the dial. This is a beautiful and impressive clock.
The item bears the manufacturer’s mark.
