Description

Gold-brown Sommerso glass bowl, Scandinavia, 1950s

Glass bowl manufactured in Scandinavia in the 1950s. Made of art glass using the Sommerso technique, which means submerged in Italian. This technique involves repeatedly placing a coloured bubble inside transparent crystal. It is a difficult process, but it creates the impression of three-dimensionality and illumination within the glass mass. The bowl is gold-brown in colour and its form is reminiscent of the designs of Gunnar Nylund, a pioneer of decorative art from the Mid-Century Modern era, considered one of the most important ceramicists of the 20th century.

The bowl is in original vintage condition. It has minor scratches on the base and an unidentified signature.
