H.63 magnetic lamp, designed by Hans Jørgen Berthel, Abo Randers, Denmark, 1960s
Description
H.63 magnetic lamp, designed by Hans Jørgen Berthel, Abo Randers, Denmark, 1960s
Magnetic lamp designed by Hans Jørgen Berthel for the Danish manufacturer Abo Randers in the 1960s. Catalogued under the designation Ny-Mag H.63. A spherical lamp in the Space Age style, made entirely of black metal. The lamp base is magnetic, allowing the light beam to be directed at any point.
Hans Jørgen Berthel designed this model in the early 1960s, but it was later reproduced by several Danish and Italian manufacturers with subtle changes to the design, including Frandsen Lighting and E.S. Horn. The lamps were available in various colours and were found in many Danish homes. Following the merger of Danish lighting companies in the 1980s and 1990s, Abo was first incorporated into Lyskaer-Lyfa together with Fog & Mørup, and then jointly into ES Horn Belysning, which later became Lightyears and was acquired in 2015 by the Danish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen.
The lamp is in original vintage condition. It has scratches on the shade and base. The light switch is located on the cord. The lamp requires an E14 screw-base bulb with a maximum power of 40 W.
