An exceptional Cleopatra bed designed by Dick Cordemeijer for the Dutch manufacturer Auping in 1953. This is a classic example of post-war Dutch modernism. The model combines a lightweight form with functionality and timeless elegance. The frame is made of dark-coloured powder-coated steel, with characteristically curved sides and perforated metal sheeting that ensures excellent ventilation and durability. Subtle edge finishes in bent teak wood complete the design, adding a warm accent to the minimalist silhouette. The design of Cleopatra is the essence of the Mid-Century Modern style. Dick Cordemeijer (André Robert Cordemeijer) lived from 1924 to 2018. He was a Dutch engineer and designer who became known for his collaboration with Auping in the 1950s. Cordemeijer represented a rational, technical approach to design, combining engineering precision with modernist aesthetics. His most famous design, the Cleopatra bed from 1953, became an icon of modern, lightweight furniture, responding to the new needs of post-war European life.

Auping is a Dutch manufacturer founded in 1888 by Johannes Auping. The company began by producing metal hospital beds. Over time, Auping became synonymous with innovation, ergonomics and modern design. The brand became known for introducing metal mesh as a bed base, ensuring durability and ventilation. In the 1950s and 1960s, Auping collaborated with leading modernist designers, becoming one of the pillars of Dutch industrial design.

The bed has been preserved in its original vintage condition. It bears signs of use consistent with its age, including scratches on the wood and metal. The seat is 26 cm high. The offer includes the bed frame only. The mattress should be made and adapted to your individual preferences.
