The painting depicts an expressionist, symbolic nocturnal scene. The pictorial composition is rendered in a dark, atmospheric palette, with distinct, contrasting colour accents. The use of thick layers of paint and expressive lines gives the work a powerful emotional resonance. The painting has a strongly metaphorical character — it may evoke a spiritual journey, a ritual, the passage of time, or an encounter with the unknown. The painting style references Expressionism and Primitivism, with a strong emotional and symbolic charge.

Frideborg Bryth lived from 1910 to 2007. She was born in Huskvarna. She was the wife of the artist Lennart Lilja. Together they ran studios and focused mainly on oil and acrylic painting. In 1978, they jointly published the book Yttringar, featuring poems by Lennart and illustrations by Frideborg. Both belonged to the Dalsland Artists’ Association.

The work is in its original vintage condition. The frame shows signs of use and age.
