Miniature collector’s stoneware vase designed by Gunnar Borg for the Swedish manufactory Höganäs Keramik in the 1960s. Handmade by a master craftsman with the utmost care and attention to detail. The vase is finished in irregular shades of brown and glazed. Signed with the artist’s signature, the manufacturer’s mark, and an individual number (13).

Gunnar Borg lived from 1926 to 2007. To this day, he remains one of the leading representatives of 20th-century Scandinavian ceramic design. He is known for miniature, handmade ceramic and stoneware objects, primarily vases. He also created lamp bases, mugs, decorative bowls, and ashtrays. He began his career at the age of 14 at Andersson & Johansson in Höganäs. From 1940, he worked there for the following 28 years. The artist’s creativity and craftsmanship are evident in every object. In 1968, Borg established his own workshop, where he continued to work until his death.

Höganäs Keramik, formerly AJ Andersson & Johansson Keramik, was founded in 1909 by Johannes Olofsson and Sigfrid Johansson. Modern household products secured an undeniable place in the history of Swedish design. Notable ceramicists at AJ / Höganäs included John Andersson, Anne Nilsson, Rolf Palm, Lisa Larrson, and Gunnar Borg. Today, it is a design company and part of the Iittala Group, a Finnish manufacturer of art glass.
