Description

Vintage leather swivel armchair, Selig Imperial, Sweden, 1970s

Modernist swivel armchair manufactured by Selig Imperial in Sweden in the 1970s. The armchair is made of black genuine leather. The base consists of a chrome-plated, star-shaped base covered with brown veneer. The back cushions are loosely attached with a cord. The enclosed form of the armchair references the iconic Egg Chair, which is an icon of Mid-Century Modern design. The armchair is very comfortable and, thanks to its interesting construction, will work perfectly in many interiors, serving as an original element of the decor.

The Selig company was founded by Mendell Selig and Samuel Wexler in Gardner, Massachusetts, USA, in 1931. In the 1950s, the company became one of the leading American importers and manufacturers of contemporary furniture. The company focused on high-end designs produced in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. Its range embodied the simple, elegant forms typical of post-war Danish design. Selig was responsible for introducing many Scandinavian designers to the American public and popularising a forward-looking modern interior style that became widespread in the United States during the post-war period.

The armchair is in its original vintage condition. It shows signs of use consistent with its age, including scratches and scuffs on the leather. The seat height is 38 cm.

The colours of products shown in the photographs may differ slightly from the actual colours. This is due to individual monitor settings and the type of lighting—the photographs were taken in artificial light, which may affect how the shades are perceived. We nevertheless make every effort to ensure that the photographs reflect the product’s actual appearance as faithfully as possible. The listing may include photographs of the item styled in an interior. These are for illustrative purposes only.
