Pair of White French Cane Chairs, Italy

Description

Set of two chairs made in Italy in the second half of the 20th century. The chairs are inspired by the famous Cesca B32 model. In 1928, the Cesca was the first chair of its kind with a caned seat, designed by Marcel Breuer. The name was a tribute to Breuer’s adopted daughter, Francesca. One of the original chairs is held at the Museum of Art in New York. It is considered one of the 10 most important chairs of the 20th century. The chair frame is made of chrome-plated steel. The edges of the seat and backrest are made of solid white wood with a natural patina. The centre is made of French cane in a distinctive weave known since the time of ancient Egypt, resembling a net. 

The chairs have been preserved in original vintage condition. They have minor abrasions to the cane and an impact mark on the seat frame. The seat height is 44 cm. The dimensions of the chairs differ by 1 cm.
