A set of four chairs designed by Hans J. Wegner for the Danish manufacturer Getama Gedsted in the 1960s. The chair’s simple, geometric frame is made of light oak. The seat and back are upholstered in high-quality black vinyl. The wide seats and armrests make the chairs very comfortable and ideal for use while working or studying.

Hans J. Wegner was a world-renowned Danish designer known above all for his numerous chair designs. Wegner had a particular talent for combining functionality and aesthetics. Many of his designs are characterised by playful or poetic features. Wegner is known as one of the pioneers of Danish modernism and one of the key figures of the golden age of Nordic design. During his career, he received numerous design awards, including the Lunning Prize and the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1951, the Prince Eugen Medal in 1961 and the C. F. Hansen Medal in 1980. Getama embodies something authentically Danish. Excellent craftsmanship, quality and the highest level of service made the factory known and respected throughout Denmark. This was largely due to its collaboration with Hans Wegner, who helped Gedsted Tang-og Madrasfabrik achieve an international breakthrough as a furniture company. As a result of this breakthrough, the company needed a shorter, more international name, so in 1953 Gedsted Tang-og Madrasfabrik became Getama. After more than one hundred years, Getama’s ambition remains to create innovative furniture designed by the best architects.

The chairs have been preserved in their original vintage condition. They show minor signs of use consistent with their age. The seat height is 40 cm.
