Description

Sofa in the Art Deco style, manufactured in Italy in the 1980s. Its most distinctive feature is its geometric, massive form. The wide, rectangular sides serve as both armrests and legs, creating a strong frame in which the seat is set. The sides are finished with burr veneer featuring a very rich, symmetrical grain pattern, with characteristic “eyes” and swirling grain, coated in high-gloss lacquer. The warm, honey-red hue of the burr veneer, combined with the deep black of the leather, creates an elegant contrast. This is an example of Italian design from the 1980s, which readily drew on luxurious materials and forms inspired by Art Deco.

The sofa is very comfortable. The loose seat and backrest cushions are upholstered in black leather finished with piping, while the deep seat provides a relaxed position for resting. The wide, flat sides can serve as a place for a book or a cup of coffee. The sofa is also finished in leather at the back, so it can be placed in the centre of a room rather than only against a wall. At 206 cm wide, it comfortably seats three people and works well in a living room, study, library or elegant office space.

The sofa is preserved in very good condition. It has only minor signs of use appropriate to its age: a small loss of veneer along the lower edge of one of the sides and scratches on the leather upholstery visible in one of the photographs.
