The pair of Kolding armchairs was designed by Danish designer Erik Wørts for IKEA in the 1960s. The slender oak frame creates a distinctive, lightweight structure with gently tapered legs and broad armrests. The simple form and exposed structural elements give the armchairs the restrained character typical of Scandinavian modernism.

The seats and backrests feature loose cushions upholstered in green fabric, which complements the natural tone of the oak frame. The two matching armchairs form a cohesive set that works equally well in a living room, beside a coffee table, or in a lounge area.

The furniture has undergone a meticulous, professional restoration involving the removal of the old finishes, staining, and lacquering. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced cabinetmaker with more than 20 years of experience. The cushions were newly made to the original dimensions and upholstered in green fabric. Thanks to this work, the armchairs present beautifully and will serve their new owner for many years without concern about damage or deterioration through everyday use.

Erik Wørts (1916–1997) was a Danish designer and cabinetmaker who combined traditional furniture craftsmanship with the possibilities of industrial production. He began working with IKEA in the early 1960s, designing tables, chairs, sideboards, and occasional furniture, among other pieces. His designs were distinguished by their simple construction, functionality, and respect for the quality of the material.

IKEA began working with Wørts in the early 1960s, and his designs from this period are an excellent reflection of the Scandinavian character of the company’s offering at the time. The Kolding armchairs are among the more interesting examples of his occasional furniture designed for IKEA.
