Small decorative tray, Vide-Poche, 1890s
Unique decorative metal vide-poche tray featuring a striking hand-sculpted bronze bulldog.
The piece is distinguished by the distinctive geometric form of a rectangular tray with slightly shaped sides.
The interior is coated in a deep red finish, beautifully contrasting with the dark brown patina of the metal frame and dog figurine.
The central element of the composition is a realistically rendered seated bulldog.
The figurine was made with great attention to detail – the folds of the skin, characteristic muzzle, paws, ears and tail are clearly visible.
The bronze is covered with a natural, multicoloured patina that emphasises the modelling of the sculpture. The tray
most likely served as a vide-poche – a decorative receptacle for small items such as coins, keys, jewellery or other objects placed on a desk or chest of drawers.
It can also serve as a decorative desk organiser.

The form and style of the object indicate France and the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, around 1900, within the realm of Art Nouveau decorative arts.
The piece is preserved in its original vintage condition, with visible signs of age, patina, and minor scuffs and signs of use. Its condition is shown in detail in the photographs.
