Description

Wooden barrel-shaped jug with brass hoops, 19th/20th century
A unique, handmade wooden jug shaped like a small barrel, made using traditional cooperage techniques.
The jug has a highly distinctive, rustic form – its body, made from vertical staves, is held together by metal hoops and features a wide handle and a large, asymmetrically shaped spout.
The beautiful natural patina of the old wood and signs of many years of use have been preserved. The metal elements also bear a delicate patina and natural discolouration.

The form suggests a traditional household vessel intended for carrying or serving beverages, probably wine, beer, or another liquid. Due to its construction from wooden staves and the currently visible small gaps between them, the item is not watertight and should not be treated as a modern functional vessel for storing liquids.

Particular attention should be paid to the preserved construction details: hand-formed staves, metal hoops secured with rivets, and a solid, shaped handle. The jug is ideally suited as an original addition to an ethnographic collection, a rustic interior decoration, or a complement to a collection of antique household vessels.
