An elegant lounge suite comprising a three-seater sofa and an armchair. The suite was designed by Hans J. Wegner for the Getama Gedsted manufactory in Denmark in the 1960s. This is the GE-530 model. The frame is made of oak stained in a dark walnut colour. Particularly noteworthy is the shape of the frame, distinguished by unusually curved armrests reminiscent of bull’s horns. It is a slightly aggressive design that works wonderfully with bold interior arrangements. The cushions are upholstered in an elegant wool fabric that adds sophistication to the whole.

Hans J. Wegner was a world-famous Danish designer, known above all for his numerous chair designs. Wegner had a particular ability to combine functionality and aesthetics. Many of his designs are characterised by playful or poetic features. Wegner is known as one of the pioneers of Danish modernism and one of the key figures of the golden age of Nordic design. During his career, he received numerous design awards, including the Lunning Prize and the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1951, the Prince Eugen Medal in 1961, and the C. F. Hansen Medal in 1980. Getama embodies something authentically Danish. Excellent craftsmanship, quality, and the highest level of service made the factory known and respected throughout Denmark. This was largely due to its collaboration with Hans Wegner, who helped Gedsted Tang-og Madrasfabrik achieve an international breakthrough as a furniture company. As a result of this breakthrough, the company had to come up with a shorter and more international name, so in 1953 Gedsted Tang-og Madrasfabrik became Getama. After more than a hundred years, Getama’s ambition is still to create innovative furniture designed by the finest architects.

The suite has been preserved in its original vintage condition. There are signs of repairs to the original upholstery on the underside of the seat cushions (not visible during use). Minor discolouration to the original upholstery. Minor abrasions to the wooden parts. The armchair has the same height and depth dimensions as the sofa. The armchair is 78 cm wide. The seat height is 42 cm.
