This lounge chair was designed by Georg Thams for the Danish furniture maker A/S Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik in the 1960s. The chair features a deep, wide seat and a tall, slightly reclined backrest, providing a comfortable, natural seating position. An integrated headrest offers additional support for the neck and head. The substantial armrests extend subtly to the sides and flow smoothly into the body of the chair. Upholstered in high-quality black genuine leather, the chair combines elegance with practicality. The material ages beautifully, developing character and a natural patina over time. All stitching has been executed with great precision, in keeping with the Danish tradition of craftsmanship. The base is a chrome-plated T-shaped base made of bent, polished steel. The legs are set widely to the sides, providing not only stability but also visual lightness, creating the impression that the piece is gently hovering above the floor. The contrast between the monumental form of the seat and the delicate lines of the base gives the chair a distinctive, balanced character. The chair belongs to the Mid-Century Modern movement, with a clear influence of Danish functionalism. Its minimalist form is combined with ergonomics and a refined sense of proportion. This is a piece that does not dominate a space but enhances it. It will work equally well in modern, minimalist interiors and in spaces arranged in a vintage or loft style.

Georg Thams lived from 1935 to 2016. He was born in Germany and studied at the School of Applied Arts in Flensburg. He initially worked as a carpenter before turning to industrial design. In the 1960s, he moved permanently to Denmark, where he collaborated with such prominent designers as Børge Mogensen and Poul M. Volther. He specialised in angular designs, mainly sofas and armchairs. All his designs are characterised by strongly defined edges and distinctive shapes. They were produced by numerous Danish manufacturers, including A/S Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik. Many of his works became icons of Danish modernist design. They continue to attract interest at numerous auctions and have been exhibited in art museums around the world.

A/S Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik was one of the most important Danish furniture makers, operating during the heyday of Scandinavian design in the mid-20th century. The company became known for producing high-quality lounge furniture, often in collaboration with acclaimed designers such as Georg Thams. Its products were characterised by solid construction, carefully selected materials and subtle design that fits perfectly within the aesthetic of the Mid-Century Modern style.

The chair has been preserved in its original vintage condition. It has minor signs of age-related use, scuffing on the leather and a natural patina. The seat height is 36 cm.
