Description

Ottoman copper jug, 19th century
Antique, handmade copper jug (ibrik / aftaba), most probably originating from the Ottoman cultural sphere — probably Anatolia or the Balkans — 19th century.

The vessel has a characteristic pear-shaped form, a slender neck, a long, elegantly curved spout and a large, slender handle. The whole is completed by a hinged, conical lid with a decorative handle.
The surface retains the natural, dark patina of aged copper and visible traces of handcraftsmanship.

Jugs of this type were traditionally used for pouring water, including for washing hands and ritual ablutions, often together with a bowl.

Date: circa 1870–1900
Origin: most probably the Ottoman Empire / Anatolia or the Balkans
Material: copper, brass
Condition: preserved in vintage/antique condition, with natural patina and signs of use; visible local traces of repairs and soldering.

An object with an exceptionally decorative, sculptural form, interesting both as an element of interior design and as a collector’s item.
