A pair of elegant Scandia chairs designed by Hans Brattrud in 1957. The seat was formed from bent American oak and set on a modernist metal base with an organic form. The graphic lines of the base create the so-called hairpin legs. This combination resulted in a lounge chair with an impressive, dynamic form and a high level of seating comfort. Born in 1933, Hans Brattrud designed the Scandia chair in the 1950s as a student project at the National College of Art & Design in Oslo. The chair was revolutionary in both its form and its expression. The use of horizontal ribs joined the two-dimensional laminated form and transformed it into a three-dimensional structure. It was an ingenious construction that was ahead of its time and created a distinctive, timeless design.

The pair of armchairs designed in 1957 was produced by the Fjordfiesta manufactory in Norway at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. With the ambition of developing and reconnecting with Scandinavian design heritage, Fjordfiesta was founded by architect Pål Lunder. Closely connected to the aesthetics of Scandinavian design culture and 21st-century values concerning ethical and environmental issues, Fjordfiesta’s intention is to create furniture that will last for generations. Inspired by Norway’s beautiful natural landscape, the designers at Fjordfiesta represent Norwegian design culture.

The armchairs are in their original, very good condition. They have minimal scuffs and signs of age. The seat height is 38 cm. The maker’s mark is located underneath the seat.
