Scandinavian Art Deco sideboard, Sweden, 1940s

A substantial sideboard made in Sweden in the 1940s. It is finished in walnut, with an irregular, pronounced grain resulting from long-term growth irregularities in the tree. Burl, also known as burr, is a growth deformation that gives the wood a distinctive, often intricate structure. It appears as a rounded protrusion on the trunk, filled with small knots formed from dormant buds. Burl produces highly distinctive and figurative wood, prized for its beauty and rarity. It is sought after by furniture makers, artists and sculptors. This highly valued material is used to produce veneers, luxury household objects, interior panels and automotive finishes, as well as expensive musical instruments. This piece features a glazed display cabinet with panes decorated with a geometric, milky pattern. The central section contains drawers, while the sides feature lockable cupboards and shelves. The sideboard retains its original brass handles and feet. The key is included. Components bear a mark indicating Swedish provenance. A rare example of Scandinavian Art Deco.

The piece has been preserved in its original vintage condition. It shows signs of age, including scuffs and scratches.
