Description

Art Deco Inkwell in Faceted Blue Glass, France, 1920s
An elegant and exceptionally decorative antique inkwell made of faceted, dark blue glass, most likely from France, dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1920–1930.
The body has a distinctive octagonal, geometric shape and is made of thick, transparent blue glass. The item features its original brass mount and hinged, faceted lid.
Particularly striking is the rich, hand-crafted decoration: gilded ornaments, white dotted appliqués and relief garlands, creating a vivid decorative contrast with the cobalt-turquoise glass.
The item can be described as a desk inkwell, although similar forms may also have been used as small containers for perfume or cosmetics. As there is no maker’s mark, I have not attributed it to any specific glassworks or designer.
A highly decorative collector’s item that looks beautiful as part of a desk, dressing table or display cabinet. Particularly appealing to collectors of French glass, Art Deco and antique desk accessories.
