Description

Glass Contrast Vase, designed by Anna Ehrner, Kosta Boda, Sweden, 1980s

The Contrast Vase series was designed by Anna Ehrner for the Swedish glassworks Kosta Boda in the 1980s. The vase is made from high-quality, thick, heavy glass. Thanks to its hand-applied decoration of swirling, contrasting calligraphic lines, each Contrast Vase is a unique work of art. Rich in detail and highly expressive in its pattern, it will fit beautifully into a wide range of interiors.

Anna Ehrner was born in 1948 in Danderyd. She is a Swedish designer and glass artist. She also worked as a teacher at Konstfack. Ehrner is an experimental and minimalist designer, characterised by a simple yet powerful design language and an ability to achieve a wonderful vibrancy of colour through its restrained use. Coloured swirling lines within the glass mass have become Ehrner’s speciality, as have the twisted glass forms from the Basket and Energy series.

Kosta Boda stands for innovative design with an individual approach. Founded in 1742, the glassworks is the oldest in Sweden and continues to produce timeless, high-quality glass. Kosta Boda has preserved its historic charm and traditional production methods while also developing modern techniques that expand the possibilities for designers’ creative expression. It creates glass that continues to delight the world today and future generations. In 1976, the company’s name was changed to Kosta Boda AB. Since 1989, Kosta Boda has been part of Orrefors Kosta Boda AB.

The vase is in original vintage condition.
