Description

Leather three-seater sofa, Model 55, designed by Kurt Østervig, Centrum Møbler, Denmark, 1950s

Leather three-seater sofa designed by Kurt Østervig for the Danish manufacturer Centrum Møbler in the 1950s. This model was catalogued as number 55. The sofa is fully upholstered in black leather with a natural patina. The legs are made of solid Brazilian rosewood. The sofa is elegant, with a simple form. Comfortable, soft seat and back cushions provide excellent comfort. The sculpted armrests lend the piece a refined character. Ideal for a living room, where it provides comfortable seating while adding a stylish touch to the interior.

Kurt Østervig began his career as a naval architect in Odense, Denmark. After shifting his career towards design, Østervig worked for the manufacturer E. Knudsen before opening his own studio in 1947. Until the end of his career, he worked as an independent designer, collaborating with numerous Danish furniture brands. Østervig’s designs are still produced by five manufacturers today, but his Mid-Century Modern pieces remain the most sought-after, achieving high prices at auctions and in galleries around the world.

The sofa remains in its original vintage condition, with signs of age, scratches, and natural patina. The upholstery concealed beneath the seat cushions is slightly damaged. The seat height is 40 cm.
