This modernist chair was designed by the world-renowned Danish designer Arne Vodder in the 1960s. The chair’s organic frame is made of solid wood with a refined brown finish. The seat and backrest are upholstered in brown genuine leather. The armrests have been ergonomically contoured to provide the highest level of comfort. Vodder placed great importance on ensuring that his furniture was not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical. A chair should support proper posture while also being comfortable. This model is ideally suited to an office. The timeless quality of this piece reflects the designer’s intention: the chair does not look factory-made, but rather showcases true craftsmanship while retaining its functionality.

Arne Vodder was born in Denmark in 1926. Trained as a cabinetmaker and architect, he studied under Finn Juhl at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After graduating, he worked as a designer at Hindsgaul, focusing primarily on office interiors. In 1950, Vodder established his own architectural and design studio with architect Anton Borg. Over the years, the studio moved to several locations in Copenhagen before eventually settling in the suburb of Holte, north of the city. Vodder and Borg continued to collaborate until the 1970s.

Vodder is best known for his furniture designs, which were usually simple forms made from natural materials such as rosewood and teak. His designs were often inspired by natural forms. Vodder collaborated with esteemed brands, designing furniture for manufacturers including Fritz Hansen, France & Søn, Nielaus, Sibast, and Kircodan. In the 1950s and 1970s, Vodder’s furniture designs were used by President Jimmy Carter in the White House and President Anwar Sadat in Cairo; they were also installed at the United Nations Office in Geneva and featured in numerous hotels, banks, and embassies around the world. His work was widely exhibited both independently and in group exhibitions featuring artists such as Verner Panton and Nanna Ditzel.

The chair is in original vintage condition. It has areas of wear and natural patina. The seat height is 44 cm.
