The set of Scissors armchairs was designed by Folke Ohlsson for the Swedish manufacturer Bodafors in 1962. The armchairs feature a scissor-frame made of oak with eight slats on the backrest. The seat cushions are loose and have been newly reupholstered in high-quality textured grey fabric. The history of this design began in 1950, when Ohlsson designed these armchairs for his company, Dux. The timeless design, simple construction and high-quality aesthetic perfectly reflect the spirit of the Mid-Century Modern era.

Folke Ohlsson was born and raised in Sweden. In 1953, he moved to the United States and founded Dux Incorporated, which went on to achieve international success. Ohlsson’s armchair and sofa designs are valued for their graceful combination of traditional details and modernist simplicity. His work consequently earned him considerable acclaim and numerous awards, including the award for best design at the Triennale exhibition in Milan in 1964, as well as the distinction of the Royal Order of Vasa in Sweden, awarded by King Gustaf VI Adolf.

The Bodafors brand is known under various names, including AB Bodafors Chair and Furniture Factory, AB Svenska Möbelfabrikerna i Bodafors and Svenska Möbelfabriken AB. Bodafors was one of the earliest Swedish pioneers in the adoption and subsequent popularisation of Scandinavian functionalism in furniture design. The name comes from the town where the company was based, in the Småland region of Sweden. The company remained an important player in the Swedish design market until its dissolution in 1971, when it became part of the DUX furniture group based in Malmö.

The armchairs are in very good vintage condition with natural patina. They have minor signs of age on the wood. The seat height is 43 cm.
